NIH DMS Questions in RPPRs Starting 10/1/24

Rosemary Casteel |

NIH Changes Related to Data Management & Sharing Plans

The NIH now requires reporting Data Management and Sharing (DMS) Plan activities in Research Performance Progress Reports (RPPRs) submitted on or after October 1, 2024.  Please note this change and an additional change related to submitting revised DMS Plans for Just-In-Time submissions.

The information reported in the RPPR must map to the submitted DMS Plan.  There is an opportunity to review and revise DMS plans for the next year at this time.  We advise reviewing the DMS Plan contents and associated budgets to ensure responses related to the data (volume and type), results repositories and associated allowable costs are accurate.  If you need assistance please request a consultation.

The new eRA DMS C.5.c section asks recipients who are subject to the DMS Policy , the following questions:

  1. Whether data has been generated to date and what type of data it is
  2. Whether data has been shared for use by others
  3. If data has been shared, in what repository and under what unique digital identifiers
  4. If data has NOT been shared, what is the status of data sharing (e.g. being prepared for submission, submitted to repository, not yet expected to be shared); and
  5. If data has not been generated and/or shared as outlined in an approved DMS plan, what corrective actions have been or will be taken to comply with the approved plan.
